Device Addresses
Normally, each device has a unique address to distinguish it from other devices. Thinking Home also uses unique device names so that you can keep them straight without having to memorize each address.
During setup, you provide an address. After that, you won’t use it much. For INSTEON, an address looks like “12.BC.5F”. An INSTEON address is built-in to the physical device and is printed on it, too. If you already have devices linked to your controller, you can have the Setup Assistant gather all the address info for you.
An X-10 address is a house code (a letter) and a unit ID (a number). You decide which one to use and set the dials on the physical device accordingly.
Tip: Sometimes you may want to use the same X-10 address for multiple devices. For example, you may have holiday candles in several rooms that you want to all operate together. In this case, you would name a single device “Holiday Candles” in Thinking Home and set the address to “H15”. Setting the dials of each lamp module to the same H15 address makes them all turn on when the “Holiday Candles” are turned on.
The Device Info window is where you type the address in Thinking Home.
